Bright Lights, Big City: True Skin is a Cyberpunk Short Lit by Neon

The video you’re about to watch below (you are going to watch it right?) is a beautifully edited short film that looks at a possible future where humans augment their bodies in disturbing and occasionally interesting ways. All in the name of beauty and immortality. It’s not often that we get many stories in the Cyberpunk genre anymore, short or not. I’m a huge fan of the style and am always on the look-out for solid, modern examples of it. So far the closest I have come is Altered Carbon, a book by Richard K. Morgan, as an aside if you want a really entertaining, smartly written, dialogue driven cyberpunk novel you should definitely check it out. But back to the film.

True skin picks up in the middle of a story that seems like it’s about to end, while I can’t say that the premise is entirely original I can say that it’s quite engaging. Much of the flavor of this world is given to us in flashes of neon color and augmented body parts. If you have a  few minutes you should really check writer/director Stephen Zloescu’s True Skin.
